OUR STORY
We've sat in the classroom, the boardroom, and the therapy room.
Locksmith Consultants was built by two people who kept noticing the same gap from different angles: schools and organizations were being asked to solve human problems without the training, funding, or systems to do it well.
The Story
Sarah Winslow and Michael Zivsak have each served as Statewide Director for Project SEARCH Michigan — both bringing nearly three decades of experience apiece, Sarah inside special education systems, transition services, and stakeholder collaboration; Michael in clinical social work and corporate finance, with specialized training in trauma, resilience, and grief work on one side, and lending and risk analysis for nonprofit and multinational organizations on the other.
Neither of them set out to become "consultants" in the generic sense. They became the people organizations called when a problem didn't fit neatly into one department — because it never does. Locksmith Consultants exists because that pattern kept repeating, and someone needed to bring those pespectives together on purpose
What Makes Us Different
Three lanes most firms never combine:
Educational
Direct experience leading statewide school-to-work programs, special education administration, transition services, and specially designed instruction — built on firsthand knowledge of special education systems, IEP processes, and the everyday realities of running a school or district.
Clinical
Trauma, resilience, grief, and clinical consultation — grounded in real practice with children, families, and the professionals who support them, including hands-on work implementing trauma-informed education systems.
Corporate & Financial
Building inclusive workplaces, risk analysis, lending, and fiscal narrative-building for nonprofit and multinational organizations — the financial fluency most education-only or clinical-only consultants lack, paired with a track record of legislative advocacy and securing the funding behind new program development.
Most consultancies have one of these. We built ours at the intersection of all three, because your organization's challenges don't stay inside one lane either.
Our Approach
No two schools or organizations are dealing with quite the same problem, so we don't start from a template. We sit down, listen to what's actually happening on the ground, and build from there. And when something falls outside our own wheelhouse, we bring in people we trust rather than stretch to cover it ourselves.
